David’s Doina


Unreleased. From the 2008 Theater J production of the musical “David in Shadow and Light” music by Daniel Hoffman, lyrics and book by Yehuda Hyman.


This is the tune that David plays to soothe the manic and troubled heart of King Saul. Not quite a traditional doina, but the King is soothed and a lot of musical material from the show is based on this moment.

from the Davka release on Tzadik, Lavy’s Dream. Romanian Fantasy #1 originally recorded in 1911 by Josef Solinsky with cymbalom accompaniment. Romanian Fantasy 2.1 is a homage to Solinsky written by Daniel.
